Dr. Wong Huey Siew


DR Wong Huey Siew is a senior lecturer at OUM. He also a social activists among the visually impaired community. He served as a chairperson for several main committee in National Council for The Blind Malaysia (NCBM) and Society of The Blind In Malaysia (SBM). Besides, he had served several committee in Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB).

His contributions to the blind community are essential. He did organise several seminar and conferences at the national level such seminar on ICT application for the blind in Malaysia, seminar on leadership for SBM, conference on employment and economy empowerment for the blind, seminar on work motivation for the blind, forum on blind graduates, national dialogues, charity fund raising dinner and various skills development courses nation wide for uplifting the life as well as the well-being of the blind community in Malaysia.

He was a National Disabled council members which appointed by the government from 2012-2016. He has won the National Exemplary Employee (Executive) Award 2014 for the OKU category. The award was presented by former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at the Melaka International Trade Centre in conjunction with National Labour Day celebrations on 21 June 2014. Besides, he also received special education category award from Wilayah Persekutuan education department in 2004 and best academic achievement award (Ph.d) from MAB).

In addition, Dr. Wong had been served in several private higher learning institution and enterprise before he joined OUM. He always invited by various party to share his experiences and give motivation talks. Now, he is a senior lecturer at OUM and he served OUM since 2007, Dr. Wong was former Deputy Dean of Postgraduate Programmes in the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences. Currently, he is one of the programme directors under cluster of education and social sciences (CESS).  These are some of his significant achievements, considering that the 4++-year-old academic had lost his eyesight at the tender age of 11.

Dr Wong attended a special school for the blind and then a mainstream school at Kuala Lumpur. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from University Malaya in 1995 and then his master’s degree from University Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1998. In 2006, he received his PhD from University of Malaya. Interestingly, in 2014, he obtained his second master in human resource management. Finally, in 2018, he had completed his certified coaching courses as certified coach from team coach International.

  • Certificate in psychology,
  • B.A in Anthropology and Sociology (minor psychology),
  • M.A of I.O psychology, and
  • Ph.D in special education/disabilities studies
